What is micro laser soldering?:

In order to join two same or different types of wires, there are two traditional methods; welding and soldering. Welding means melting the junction point of two wires and in soldering, we apply a new metal in the junction that has a lower melting point. Now, what about micro laser soldering? Micro laser soldering is the process through which we can join two super nano wires that can be as tiny as 9 microns.

Today’s planet is technology-driven and the demand for miniature tools and instruments like transducers and sensors is increasing day by day. And to make those sensors and other tools, joining super nano wires are crucial, but in this case, traditional welding and soldering methods are no good. The super nano wires are mainly utilized to wind coils to prepare precise, high-tech motion control devices, medical implants, and positioning systems. Along with it, after preparation, these devices have to meet certain physical and environmental requirements to get released in the market. So, for sure, the components of the devices also need to clear a series of tough tests, and that is why micro laser soldering is very much important.

Problems of traditional methods:

Here we enlist the problems for which we cannot use traditional methods like welding or soldering to join super nano wires.

  • Welding or soldering require high amount of heat that can annihilate the miniature wire.
  • The effect of oxidation may damage the highly sensitive wire.
  • Effect of physical strain and tension.

The solution:

To eliminate these all problems and to properly join two super nano wires, the innovative technology that we engineers use is named thermo-pressure bonding. Through this technology, we can connect two super micro wires of the same size and diameter or two micro wires of different types and sizes ( up to 12 times thicker than each other). Thermo pressure technology helps us to connect:

  • The junction of two super micro wires with nano copper thermocouple.
  • Micro coil metal connections to printed circuit boards through comparatively thicker wires.
  • Different micro coils of a miniature device through metal plated terminals.

The future:

The future of miniature devices and micro components are not only extremely shiny, but also it gives us an unlimited opportunity to accrue more within a less. Using micro laser soldering, engineers can make more compact miniature instruments and medical devices that have brought a revolution in medical science. For instance, a micro coil prepared using micro laser soldering technology can help in navigating within a cardiovascular catheter that doctors use for cardiac ablation. Apart from that, by using micro laser soldering and thermo-pressure technology, engineers can manufacture a lot of state-of-the-art devices at a relatively lower cost. With more time in the future, designers and engineers will thrive more to make this technology even more advanced, and utilize it to prepare even more new devices. And we can rest assured that this will make our life more secure, and comfortable.
