Region faced a shortage of doctors that translated into bigger pay cheques

According to figures released by the Saudi German Hospital-Dubai, the industry in the country faces a shortage of doctors and the number could go up to 12,920 by 2014. Going back to the basics of demand and supply, this translates into bigger salary and pay packages for doctors in the UAE.

Last year’s figures of Hays, showed average salary of a starting General Practitioner to be between Dh18,000 and Dh30,000 with housing and transport allowance.
But this year, the salary of this category of professionals has gone up to Dh25,000–30,000. This means a General Practitioner working in UAE got a hike of more than 35 percent.
A recruitment expert told ‘Emirates24|7’ that ”According to the input of UAE medical practitioners on our online remuneration bench-marking platform, associate specialists receive an average of up to Dh10,420, medical consultants receive an average of up to Dh39,560 and general practitioners receive an average of up to Dh26,236.”
He added on the condition of anonymity that ”However, salaries vary largely from one institution to another and also according to the academic and professional background of the person in question as salaries of doctors particularly depend to a very large extent on the certificates and the higher degrees they hold, in addition to their years of experience in the field and their specific areas of specialty and expertise.”

Below are the average salaries of healthcare professionals in the UAE. This varies to a large extent by company/hospital, academic and professional background, certificates and the higher degrees and the years of experience in the field and the areas of specialty and expertise

UAE are paying much higher salaries for doctors than any other Arabian gulf countries. Especially American trained doctors with experience.

These numbers are deceiving. Property prices are inflating to a certain bubble that may last to Expo 2020. A consultant should be paid 120 thousand to live to a north american life style. You have to see it to believe it.

Which salary will you pay a registered Nurse?

  • JC

I sincerely apologize if my question offends anyone, but I’m confused by these numbers. I’m a board certified, fellowship trained Anesthesiologist in the USA. I have been earning over $400,000 (American dollars) annually, for several years now.

I assumed the numbers above, were MONTHLY amounts. Are these ANNUAL salaries? Are you sure? You mean to say that I’d earn 1/10 of my salary over there? Even with housing paid for, that’s almost an insult. No wonder there is a shortage.

    • Artist

Hello JC, I believe those are in fact MONTHLY amounts.
